Dr Hikaru Hashimura

Dr Hikaru Hashimura Specialist Endocrinologist, MBBS FRACP

Dr Hikaru Hashimura graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at Monash University in 2014 and completed advanced training in endocrinology at Royal Hobart Hospital, Monash Health and St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. She obtained her fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2022.

During her training, Hikaru published journals on primary aldosteronism, the commonest cause of endocrine hypertension, and also enjoyed teaching junior medical staff and medical students.

Hikaru is interested in all aspects of endocrinology, including diabetes, thyroid, adrenal and pituitary disorders, osteoporosis, endocrine issues in pregnancy, menopause, and weight management. She believes in open and transparent communication with her patients and encourages their active participation in treatment decisions. Hikaru embraces holistic, multi-disciplinary treatment incorporating expertise from relevant medical specialists and allied health professionals and believes that this is key to achieving the best treatment outcome.

Hikaru is from Osaka, Japan, and came to Melbourne in 2009 to pursue her dreams of becoming a doctor in Australia. She is the founder and president of Japanese Medical Support Network Melbourne, aiming to improve healthcare delivery to the Japanese community.

She is the only Japanese-speaking endocrinologist in Australia and can undertake consultations in Japanese.
