The Role of Acupuncture in Supporting Fertility at No.1 Fertility

Fertility treatment can involve both physical and emotional demands. At No.1 Fertility, we recognise the importance of supporting overall wellbeing alongside medical care. Some patients choose to include acupuncture as part of a broader, integrative approach to their fertility journey.

Acupuncture may assist with relaxation, stress management, and general wellbeing during fertility treatment. It is offered as a complementary therapy and is not a substitute for medical treatment.

What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient healing practice the forms part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body to restore balance and promote health. It has been used for thousands of years to support general health and wellbeing, including in areas such as stress, sleep, and pain management.

In modern fertility care, acupuncture is used as a complementary approach to support overall reproductive health and help manage the physical and emotional demands associated with treatment.

How Acupuncture May Support Fertility

Some patients choose acupuncture as part of their fertility care for its potential to support overall health and wellbeing. Areas where acupuncture may provide supportive benefits include:

  • Hormonal regulation support
Acupuncture may assist in supporting the body’s natural hormonal regulation, including hormones such as oestrogen, progesterone and luteinising hormone (LH), all of which are involved in ovulation and conception.
  • Circulation support
Acupuncture may help promote blood flow, including to the pelvic region, which plays a role in reproductive health.
  • Stress reduction and relaxation
Acupuncture is commonly used to support relaxation and may assist in reducing stress and improving overall wellbeing during fertility treatment.

It is important to note that individual responses vary, and outcomes cannot be guaranteed.

Acupuncture as a Complement to IVF and Fertility Treatment

Acupuncture can be incorporated alongside fertility treatments such as IVF, IUI, or embryo transfer as part of a broader, supportive care plan. Some patients choose to have acupuncture sessions before or after key stages of treatment to promote relaxation and support overall wellbeing.

It may also assist with managing common side effects associated with treatment cycles, as well as supporting sleep and general comfort.

At No.1 Fertility, any complementary therapies are considered within a coordinated, patient-centred approach to care.

Who May Consider Fertility Acupuncture?

Acupuncture may be considered as a supportive option for individuals looking to prioritise their reproductive health and overall wellbeing. This may include those who are:

  • Preparing for IVF or embryo transfer and seeking additional support
  • Experiencing irregular menstrual cycles or ovulatory concerns
  • Managing conditions such as PCOS, endometriosis, or unexplained infertility
  • Planning for pregnancy and exploring preconception care
  • Seeking support for male fertility factors, including sperm health

Treatment plans are tailored to the individual and designed to complement medical care, taking into account each person’s health needs, treatment plan, and lifestyle.
