No. We do not charge to move your eggs or embryos. Access to your own embryos should never be a barrier to your care or your ability to make informed decisions.

Can I see the IVF clinic before starting treatment?

Yes, and we encourage it. We offer clinic tours so you can understand exactly how your care is delivered. Tours are available across our locations, including Sydney, with slight variations depending on the clinic setup.

What will I see on a No.1 Fertility clinic tour?

You will be guided through key parts of the clinical and laboratory environment, which may include cryo storage for eggs, sperm and embryos, monitoring and safety systems, backup infrastructure, and laboratory and procedure areas where applicable to that location. Each tour is tailored to the specific clinic.

The process

Becoming a sperm donor is an important decision. There are several stages involved, including medical screening, counselling, donation and a mandatory quarantine period. Our team will guide you through each step so you understand what is involved before you proceed.

Enquire

Start by speaking with our knowledgeable Donor Administration team, who will guide you through the sperm donation process and discuss your eligibility to become a donor.

Medical appointment and testing

As part of the process, you'll meet with a No.1 Fertility Specialist and complete routine testing, including a semen analysis, blood and urine testing and genetic testing.

Counselling

Counselling is an important and mandatory part of the donation journey. During these sessions, your counsellor will explore your reasons for wishing to donate, the possible outcomes of donation, the legislation, your rights and responsibilities and answer any questions you have regarding the donation. If you have a partner, they will be asked to participate too.

Donation

Once approved, you will be invited to make a minimum of five sperm donations.

Sperm quarantine period

Following your final donation, the sperm will be quarantined for three months. At the end of this period, we will contact you to arrange a final blood test. Once the screening is complete and all requirements have been met, your donation can be cleared for use.

Important: Becoming a sperm donor involves medical screening, counselling, multiple donations and a three month quarantine period. Our team will make sure you understand each stage before proceeding.

Identity release Identifying information may be accessed by a donor conceived person once they turn 18.

Counselling is essential You'll have the opportunity to discuss the lifelong implications before donating.

Altruistic donation Victorian law prohibits payment, although some expenses may be reimbursed.

FAQs

Questions you might have

Is sperm donation anonymous?

No. Clinic recruited sperm donation is not completely anonymous. Non identifying information is provided to recipients at treatment, while identifying information is recorded on the Victorian Central Register if a child is born. A donor conceived person may access identifying information about their donor when they turn 18.

Do sperm donors get paid?

Victorian legislation prohibits payment for sperm donation. No.1 Fertility may reimburse some expenses associated with participating in the donor program.

What if I have a partner?

If you have a partner, they will also be invited to participate in counselling so you both understand the potential future implications of donation.

Can I ask questions before deciding?

Absolutely. You don't have to make a decision straight away. Our Donor Program team can explain the process, answer your questions and help you understand whether donation is right for you.
