Ovulation Induction (OI)

Ovulation induction is a fertility treatment used to help stimulate and regulate ovulation. It is often recommended for people with irregular menstrual cycles, absent periods, or as a way to enhance the chances of conception before moving on to more complex fertility treatments.

The aim is to encourage the development and release of one or more healthy eggs, improving the likelihood of falling pregnant. Your No.1 Fertility Specialist may prescribe tablet-based medications, injectable hormones, or a combination, depending on your individual needs and medical history.

Because more than one egg can develop in a stimulated cycle, ovulation induction can increase the chance of conceiving twins or, less commonly, triplets.

Untracked ovulation induction

Untracked ovulation induction involves taking ovulation-inducing medications and having regular intercourse during your fertile window to increase the chances of conception. This approach involves minimal clinic visits and monitoring. In some cases, your doctor may recommend progesterone blood tests to confirm that ovulation has occurred.

Tracked ovulation induction

Tracked ovulation induction combines ovulation-inducing medication with ultrasound monitoring to follow follicle growth in the ovaries. When the follicles reach an optimal size, an ovulation “trigger” injection may be given to time egg release. The clinic will then advise you on the best time to have intercourse, helping to maximise your chance of conception.
