Our committed and passionate team of Genetic Counsellors work closely with No.1 Fertility Specialists and our No.1 Clinical Geneticist to provide evidence-based genetic counselling around patients’ genetic health information to facilitate informed choice about genetic testing options. As genomic technologies continue to evolve and advance, patients and health care professionals are faced with increasingly complex information and decisions surrounding genetic risk and a growing myriad of testing options. Our team of highly qualified Genetic Counsellors bring a wealth of experience from various areas of clinical genetics including prenatal, general, cancer, and IVF and enjoy applying their knowledge to empower our patients with the tools and knowledge to make complex medical decisions.
We believe our role is often as translators, creating a bridge between the ‘science’ of complex technical genetic information, and the ‘art’ of empathy and communication. We cover a broad scope of cases, ranging from couples seeking preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) due to an increased risk of having a child with a serious genetic condition, to patients seeking to understand their genetic risk based on age, family history or further genetic screening tests. We love the power of human connection built on empathy and compassion, and feel extremely privileged to be able to walk alongside our patients on each of their unique fertility journeys.

One of the most common questions we hear from clinicians outside of genetics and IVF is: “A patient has come back as a carrier couple — what do I actually tell them about PGT-M?”
The clinical pathway is well established, but the practical reality of IVF and embryo testing — what it involves, how long it takes, what the results mean, and what it’s like emotionally — can be genuinely difficult to explain to patients who are encountering it for the first time.
This week’s podcast: Pre-implantation Genetic Testing (PGT-M) with Alice Weeks
Ali is joined by Alice Weeks, Genetic Counselling Manager at No.1 Fertility, to walk through how patients typically arrive at PGT-M, what the IVF and embryo testing process actually involves, how results are interpreted, and — importantly — the psychosocial reality of genetic decision-making during fertility treatment.
Whether you’re a GP, obstetrician, fertility specialist, or genetic counsellor, this is a useful listen. It’s also something you can share directly with patients who are considering or about to start PGT-M and want to understand the process in their own time.
